About Peregian Beach Nippers

Nippers is the perfect way to introduce your child to the beach environment. An active, friendly and fun program, Peregian Nippers teaches children about surf awareness and develops their surf sports skills all while making new friends in a fun and safe environment.

Any child 5 years of age on or before 30 September 2026 can join the Club with a parent or legal guardian. You can register any time during the season (registration details at the bottom of the page).

Our Peregian Nippers season runs from October to March on Sunday mornings between 7.30am and 10.00am.

Sunday Program

Nippers begins with sign-on and announcements at the Clubhouse followed by a warm-up and signals practice on the beach. Then, in rotation by age group, the children participate in variations of flags, sprints, board /bodyboard paddling and swims/ wades, all age appropriate, designed to be fun, teach surf safety and develop skills to become competent lifesavers.

Children are not taught to swim at Nippers – we recommend that children attend pool swimming lessons to develop their strength and confidence. Surf swim training focuses on negotiating waves, rips and sweeps and learning to understand surf conditions at Peregian Beach.

Nippers Uniform

For safety, Nippers are required to wear the appropriate Age-relevant Cap and a Hi-Vis Long-Sleeved Pink Rashie Shirt/ or Hi-Vis Pink Singlet. This encourages a sense of belonging and makes identification on a busy beach much easier for all Nippers volunteers!

Children may wear a wet-suit or thermal rashie beneath their hi-vis uniform if they feel the cold.

Age Groups

Your Nippers age group for the season is determined as of midnight on 30 September. EG: Age 5 on or before 30th September makes their age group U/6

Proficiency Requirements

All nippers are required to complete a preliminary proficiency before they can participate in any water-based activities. The evaluation is an age appropriate pool swim and a timed survival float.

The pool proficiency is included in your Nippers membership and is held at Coolum Aquatic Centre - dates for the 2026/27 season are in the table above.

If you cannot attend our Club proficiency swim evaluation days you can arrange a qualified swimming coach to assess your Nipper and sign a proficiency form.

Parent Involvement

Peregian Beach Surf Life Saving Club is a volunteer organisation and without parent participation there would be no Nippers!

Please consider one of the following:

Become an Age Manager. No experience is necessary, you just need the right attitude. New AMs are always welcome and we can provide the training
Actively help your Age Manager as an assistant
Cook or help with the Club BBQ on Sunday mornings
Help with water safety by gaining your Surf Rescue Certificate or Bronze Medallion (training is free for members)
Gain your Nipper Safety Assistant Award (NSA) to assist water safety with our U6, U7 and U8 age groups.

Join Peregian Beach Nippers

NOTE: Nippers is a family affair! Please start by creating an account in your name. You will become the primary contact for your family group. Then click on the 'MORE' tab, select Membership - Family Group/s and enter your personal details. Then you can add everyone else in your family that is eligible to join. When your family is registered, click next to go to the payment page. Beside your name select the applicable Family Group membership fee.
